I read Jiro Shimbo 辛坊治郎's book 'TVメディアの興亡' (in English, 'The Rise and Fall of TV media'), Apr 22, 2000, on May 22, 2007.
The Japanese book touched HDTV (High-definition television), ATV (Advanced television), General Instrument Corp and Donald Rumsfeld but unbelievablly it did not at all touch Japan's Toshiba Corp 'the partner of General Instrument Corp'. While the book said in America General Instrument Corp made the base of HDTV in 1990 and the Grand Alliance - General Instrument Corp, AT&T, Philips Consumer Electronics and no name others (from Wikipedia, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, David Sarnoff Research Center, Thomson Consumer Electronics and Zenith Electronics Corp) - made the American HDTV specification under FCC (the Federal Communication Commission) from May 1993 to 1996.
Joel Brinkley's book 'Defining Vision: The Battle for the Future of Television', Jul 1998, clearly said General Instrument Corp's HDTV partner was Toshiba Corp in the end of 1992. And Toshiba Corp (Mr Gregory DePriest) made ATV alliance with NBC for 1996 Atlanta Olympics on Oct 1993. General Instrument Corp led the Grand Alliance from May 20, 1993. ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) standard was born in 1995 from the Grand Alliance's HDTV specification. So I think HDTV is the Japan's Toshiba Corp's and (past) Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's mind-control power in USA and some countries.
Mr Brinkley also said General Instrument Corp hoped from the beginning HDTV system will be set on satellites. Mr Rumsfeld served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Instrument Corporation from 1990's fall (to late 1993).
